Section 504
There are occasions where students with disabilities do not qualify for an individualized education program (IEP), as required by the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and implementing provisions of the School Code. However, students may qualify for services under Section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973. For purposes of Section 504, “students with disabilities” includes students for whom a physical or mental impairment substantially limits one or more major life functions. Services under Section 504 for eligible students who have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, have a record of a physical or mental impairment, or are regarded as having a physical or mental impairment.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline - 988
If you or you know of a student or members of our school community who is experiencing crisis outside of the school day, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be accessed by dialing 988. This is a national network of local crisis centers that provide free and confidential emotional support to individuals in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the United States.
McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act is the primary piece of federal legislation related to the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness and it ensures the educational rights and protections of homeless children and youth so that they may enroll in school, attend regularly, and be successful. The McKinney-Vento Liaison for Bellwood School District 88 is Ms. Rosalind Banks, Director of Special Education and Student Services.
